Sustainability

We don’t just walk the walk—we tread lightly too.
At the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, we believe that enjoying our stunning island landscapes goes hand-in-hand with protecting them. That’s why we’re committed to making our festival as sustainable as possible; for our planet, our community, and future generations of walkers.
🥾 Walking: The ultimate eco adventure
Let’s face it, walking is already one of the greenest ways to explore the world. No carbon emissions, no engines, just your own two feet and a sense of adventure. But we don’t stop there.
🌱 How we keep it green
Here’s how we strive to keep the Isle of Wight Walking Festival sustainable:
- Low-impact travel: We encourage walkers to use public transport, cycle, or car-share where possible. Many of our routes start and end near bus stops or train stations, so it’s easy to leave the car at home.
- Paperless promotion: Most of our festival information is shared digitally (like this page!) to cut down on printed materials.
- Leave no trace: We promote responsible walking by sticking to footpaths, respecting wildlife, and always taking litter home.
- Locally sourced everything: Our routes often highlight local cafes, farm shops, and businesses, because supporting our community is part of sustainability too.
- Volunteer power: Our amazing walk leaders are local volunteers who care deeply about the island and its environment. We couldn’t do it without them!
🌿 Your role as a green walker
We all have a part to play. Whether you bring a reusable water bottle, pick up a stray wrapper, or use public transport to get to your walk, you’re helping us protect the Island we all love.
Want to go the extra (green) mile?
- Refill your bottle at local refill stations
- Avoid single-use plastics
- Stick to marked trails to protect local habitats
- Shop and snack locally, supporting small, sustainable island businesses
🚶♂️ Walking towards a greener future
We’re always looking for new ways to make the festival even more eco-friendly. Got an idea or some feedback? Let us know! Sustainability is a journey, and we’d love to walk it with you.
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is managed by Visit Isle of Wight. As an organisation we are taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment. For more information on what we are doing, view our corporate sustainability information here.
