The Curious History of Newtown Old Town Hall (guided tours)
Join the National Trust for some unique guided tours – Wednesday 6, 13 and 20 May, 2 to 3pm
“Standing on the edge of the quiet hamlet, the Old Town Hall is the only remaining evidence of how important Newtown once was. To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the National Trust, we’ll be running guided tours to explore its fascinating history. On the tours, we’ll take you around this ancient building and regale you with stories of Ferguson’s Gang, a group of young women who wore masks and used fictitious names such as Red Biddy, Sister Agatha and Bill Stickers. These eccentric and formidable women were instrumental in raising awareness of the need to protect and preserve valuable places, such as the Old Town Hall, which was just the second building in the country to be given by them to the National Trust in 1933.”
Booking essential on 01983 531622.
Normal admission charges apply.
Meet at the Old Town Hall (PO30 4PA, SZ423906).
