Northwood House and Park – Friday 13th October 2023

Well a yellow weather warning, 43 mph winds and torrential rain at 9:30 didn’t bode well for a stroll around Northwood House estates with historian Tim Wander. However, the show must go on – and it did and 19 walkers turned up – There is no such thing as inappropriate weather, only inappropriate clothing – but not needed as at 11am precisely the rain stopped, winds died and the last half of the 90-minute estate walk was in warm sunshine! Seems the sun really does shine on the righteous. And also this walking group. So war memorials, ice house, ponds and bathhouse, John Nash cottage, secret tunnels and St Mary’s church – and the secret grave stone for a dueling victim and much, much, more.

Then into the house for a private guided tour with access all areas along with included tea, coffee and biscuits made the whole three hours fly by. The cellars and stories of Spanish Flu as always a highlight.

 – Thanks to all who came and kindly donated £180 for the Northwood House Charitable Trust to continue the great work restoring the house. And coats were never needed!

Maybe do it again next year….
